Line counters are an effective means of measuring your fishing depth, but they do have drawbacks. They are bulky, add weight to the reel, and most have to be reset after use. Power Pro Depth Hunter braided fishing line offers a simpler option. Once an angler gets accustomed to the pattern of colors, knowing the amount of line you have out becomes thoughtless. Depth Hunter is perfect whether your casting, trolling, downrigging, or dropping to a spot on sonar. Catch all the details in the following review.

Intro To Power Pro Depth Hunter

With Depth Hunter, anglers can easily keep track of line distance. Each spool uses four colors; Blue, Yellow, Green, and Orange. The color remains solid for a span of 25 feet before it changes hue. A full rotation of all 4 colors winds out to 100 feet, at which point the pattern repeats itself. To give anglers an even more precise depth measurement, the line has black tics every 5 yards. Once an angler becomes accustomed to the pattern, they know their depth in an instant!

Like the other Power Pro braided lines, Depth Hunter uses Enhanced Body Technology for superior castability. Spools come in tests between 10 and 150 lbs. Lengths are available at 167, 333, 500, 1500, and 3000 yards. Be sure to check the spools below to see if Depth Hunter comes in the test and length you require.

Power Pro Depth Hunter Measurements
Depth Hunter Measurements

Put your knot or connection right at the end of any color segment. It doesn’t really matter which color you tie to, as they all measure 25 yards. Blue, yellow, green, and orange repeat their pattern with each completion reaching out to 100 yards. In addition, each 25-foot section of solid color has 5 sets of black tics. The tics mark the line like a measuring tape in 5-yard repetition. This tells an angler with near precision how much line is out.

4 or 6 Strand Spectra Braided Line

Following the style of standard Power Pro Spectra, Depth Hunter uses either a 4 or 6 strand weave. The lighter tests of 10 through 65 pounds employ a 4 strand weave, while 80 to 150 pounds use 6. Whether a 4 or 6 strand braid, all Power Pro Depth Hunter lines use a tight weave around a solid core. Much like micro-Dyneema, Spectra is a polyethylene fiber known for its strength.

Enhanced Body Technology (EBT)

Power Pro uses a proprietary technology that treats the braid during the weaving process. Though it doesn’t impregnate the fiber, the resin-like substance molds the braid together into one sealed line. The result is a slick feel which adds both abrasion resistance and casting distance. Though not always the best for spinning setups, Power Pro is well suited for inline reels.

Zero Stretch, High Sensitivity, & Abrasion Resistant

Effective braided lines share these qualities and Depth Hunter ranks among them. The line won’t stretch like monofilament, making it extremely sensitive on the rod tip. Braid really gives you the ability to feel the slightest bites. You do have to be careful on the hookset not to pull the hook through the mouth of the fish. Depth Hunter has increased resistance to abrasion due to the proprietary Enhanced Body Technology.

Pros & Cons Of Power Pro Depth Hunter

Pros

The obvious benefit to using Power Pro Depth Hunter braid is the color scheme. Without the need for a line counter, knowing your distance has plenty of helpful uses. But there are other advantages like EBT, which adds distance to jig casting. EBT also improves abrasion resistance, making it easier on your gear while adding life to the line. Last but not least, multi-colored braid disrupts the visual presentation in the water. It has an element of camouflage over a solid color braid.

Cons

Though more affordable than Super 8 Slick and other top name brands, Depth Hunter doesn’t fall in the low-cost range. Brands such as KastKing and their SuperPower braid run cheaper, but you take your chances on quality. Another factor to consider is the nature of a 4-strand weave. You do get 6 strands if you use Depth Hunter in 80-pound test or higher. Many offshore anglers, however, prefer a smoother 8-strand braid.

Best Uses For Depth Hunter

If you need to know your depth, Depth Hunter does the job. But depth isn’t its only application. It’s a good way to measure your casts and know exactly how far your jigs are flying. Power Pro Depth Hunter simplifies the setting of your trolling jigs and feathers. Drop them back until they reach the distance you want them at and pair them in unison, short or long.

Though Power Pro makes a braid specific for downrigging, Depth Hunter will do the trick. It works perfectly for dropping on the anchor or drift to a school suspended in the water column. Or likewise, getting just below the markings of yellowtail before you rip your yo-yo iron to the surface.

Anglers receive competent and educated customer care when contacting Power Pro. If you have any unanswered questions, visit their website here. Power Pro is one of the rarer makers of braided line in that they may offer a warranty. Anglers must fill out a specific application and not purchase the line from 3rd-party vendors.

In Conclusion

88 out of 100 anglers approve of Power Pro Depth Hunter braided fishing line

Depth Hunter offers trust in quality that comes with a name like Power Pro. It scores in the upper eighties due to its special distance telling ability, camo quality, and EBT treatment. The main drawbacks are its lack of an 8-strand weave and poorer performance on spinning reels. What are your experiences with Depth Hunter? Do you have any additional questions?
