Accurate Fishing Rods – BX7040 Review
Accurate doesn’t offer a wide range of Conventional Rods, but what they have is worth noting. Accurate fishing rods are built with lightweight grace, but keep enough power to battle the strongest of fish.
Product: Accurate BX 7040 Conventional Fishing Rod.
Overall Ranking: 89 out of 100
Price: Middle Range.
Owners: David, Douglas, and Jack Nilsen.

Introduction to Accurate Fishing Rods
Although Accurate is especially known for their reels, I thought we’d take a look at one of their offshore rods. It’s a skinny, light weight rod that through technology, boasts a strength to get the job done. The BX 7040 is also a more affordable rod than others I’ve reviewed.
Rod Details:
- Length: 7′
- Weight: 2.5 lbs
- Mono Line: 40-50 lbs
- Braided line: 65-80 lbs
- Uses: Live Bait, Trolling, Iron
- Action: Described as a unique fast to slower action.
- Power: Heavy
Pros and Cons of the BX 7040
Pros:
- Floating Fulcrum Design: Gives the fast to slower action.
- 6 Ply Graphite Glass: This technology allows the rod to be thin and lightweight, yet lands in the heavy class for power.
- Price: Accurate rods are more affordably priced than many offshore models.
- Warranty: Accurate offers a two year warranty on its products.
- Trusted Brand: Accurate has been serving fisherman for over 22 years.
Cons:
The negative feedback on this rod is that it is too fast for surface iron fishing. It won’t give the proper action to your lure. This limits its uses to bait fishing, or heavy vertical yo yo style jigging. It’s listed as being capable of trolling, though I wouldn’t use it in that capacity if I didn’t have to. This really isn’t much of a con for me. I would only want it for the uses described anyway.
Who is the BX 7040 Best Suited for?
Fisherman looking for a quality rod on a budget would do well with this Accurate rod. It also makes an affordable addition to any arsenal as a switch off, or back up rod.
How is Accurate Customer Support?
Accurate Fishing boasts a customer oriented program they’ve dubbed “Accucare“. They have a team of qualified technicians and machinists to help answer any of your questions or concerns. They offer several service centers, and request your questions and feedback on their website.
Price
At a middle range price, the BX 7040 offers good value. This is less than half the price of many top tier rods.
Final Opinion of the Accurate BX 7040 Fishing Rod
A score of 89 out of 100 ranks this rod perfectly. It gets very high marks for value. Although it does have a two year warranty, a rod replacement program would be nice. From their customer service standpoint, they might very well work with you if you broke your rod. The six ply graphite glass allows the rod to be slim and lightweight while keeping power. It sacrifices good top water jig action. You can’t have it all I guess. Overall, a very good buy.
