An Offshore Beauty! The Calstar GFGR 700H Review

For the offshore fisherman, choice of rod is an important and fluid process. He often finds his style of rod on the water. While on land (or perhaps during slow periods at sea) the fisherman has this Calstar GFGR 700H review to give him a glimpse of one offshore wonder.

The Calstar family of rods originates out of Gardena, Ca. The owners grew up with other companies before creating Calstar. They have over 50 years experience making rods.

Calstar rods come with a lifetime manufacturers warranty. Any rods with defects will be replaced free of charge.

Calstar rods also come with a damage warranty. If the rods are user damaged, they will be replaced at a nominal price up to the discretion of Calstar. I once had mine replaced for $50.00

My approval

I’ve used Calstar rods. I’ve put the wood to big Yellowtail and tuna with these rods. They are lightweight, look good, and provide exceptional performance.

The cons of owning a Calstar Rod

Plenty of rods out there are less expensive

Calstar isn’t the most expensive rod maker, but definitely not the cheapest. The quality and warranty of Calstar rods provide a sound argument here.

Equal competitors offer quality product

Calstar by no means stands alone in the class of elite rod crafters. There are plenty of other companies to look at. I encourage every fisherman to do this, and I will be covering other brand reviews as well.

Some anglers prefer hand crafted rods

Hand crafted rods offer the angler the value of knowing the crafter of their rod. They can direct the builder to create the rod to the exact specs they desire, and they can trust that the craftsmanship is sound.
